IPD’s second annual East Asia Strategy Forum, co-hosted with the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada in Ottawa from November 1-2, 2022, received coverage in the Toronto Star of its keynote session with Paul Thoppil, Assistant Deputy Minister for Asia-Pacific at Global Affairs Canada.
The strategy will see Canada build on assets in the region to help bolster security, commercial activities and humanitarian support, among other things, Paul Thoppil, an assistant deputy minister in the Asia-Pacific branch of Global Affairs Canada, told a conference in Ottawa… “If we don’t adjust our diplomacy to new realities and new forms of co-operation, we risk falling behind some of our peers and being left out of discussions that will shape the region for the next several decades,” he said.
