IPD’s second annual East Asia Strategy Forum, co-hosted with the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada in Ottawa from November 1-2, 2022, received coverage in The Canadian Press of its day one panel on Canada’s Indo-Pacific strategy.
Jeffrey Reeves, research director of the Asia-Pacific Foundation, said the West also hurt its reputation by doing little to allow developing countries to produce COVID-19 vaccines, such as through waiving patents. “China provided most of Asia with vaccines while the global West hoarded supplies and prevented technology transfers in overseas production,” he noted at a Nov. 1 panel. “Those sort of things don’t honestly go unnoticed and they are not easily forgotten.”
