IPD Executive Director, Bijan Ahmadi recently appeared on BBC Persian for an interview to discuss recent developments in Iran nuclear file and IAEA.
He argues that Iran is still interested in a deal, but is looking for effective sanctions relief as well as guarantees that Biden and future US administrations will not leave the agreement. On both sanctions and guarantees, there are still major differences between the US and the Iranian side. In his opinion, Iranians have been building leverage ahead of the upcoming negotiations in Vienna by higher enrichment and by reducing cooperation with IAEA. He suggests that both sides still have room for maneuver to reach an agreement but that window of opportunity is quickly coming to an end and without a negotiated solution escalation will follow.
The interview is in Persian (Farsi) and can be watched here.
