The Institute for Peace & Diplomacy’s recent panel, ‘Assessing Canada-China Relations — Challenges and Opportunities,’ has been featured on China News, a well-known Chinese news portal.
The focus of the panel was for scholars and politicians from Canada and China to reflect on past challenges and discuss the short, medium, and long-term considerations for Canada-China relations.
Highlights included Senator Yuen Pau Woo suggesting “global neighbour” as an appropriate term for Canada to adopt in rethinking its relationship with China, and Professor Wenran Jiang, a member of the advisory board of the Institute of Peace & Diplomacy, arguing against the idea that there is no reason to seek an improvement in Canada-China relations. Professor Jiang also noted “there are so many jobs that depend on the relationship between the two countries.”
